equal rights || Same-sex marriage legal in Finland
Today is an amazing day. Let me tell you why. Well, this is an amazing day because today is the day when the most amazing law in the whole world comes into effect in Finland. The law I'm talking about is the equal marriage law. I've been waiting for this day since I found out the date couple of months ago.
Getting equal rights for everyone is one of the things I want to fight for. These things don't affect me personally in any way but they are still important to me. People may wonder if I belong to the LGBT community. Here's the facts, I don't belong to the community, at least I think so who knows maybe I will someday discover that I do. But though I don't belong to the community, I have friends who do. And I know what it feels like to be bullied and discriminated, so I don't want it to happen to anyone. I hate it when people say that you have to be gay to support gay rights. Why on earth should I belong to the community to support their rights. Even though I don't belong to the community, I am happy because my friends can get married.
Equal rights belong to everyone. We should all have the same rights because we are all human. That's why we shouldn't call them gay rights, we should call them just human rights because that is what they are. A wise man (Morgan Freeman) once said "I hate the word homophobia. It's not a phobia. You're not scared. You're an asshole." And Will smith have said "If anybody can find someone to love them through this difficult thing that we call life, I support that in any shape or form."
Lately I've been following more and more LGBT couples in Instagram, Youtube and other social medias. Few of these are Matt Dallas and Blue Hamilton, MarkE Miller and Ethan Hethcote, Dan Brian and Brian Lafond, Vinny and Luke Vaillancourt, Chandler Wilson and their fiance Xander, and my favourite Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka. These people inspire me everyday to be proud of who I am. And I'm pretty sure that I am not the only one. Everyone should be proud of who they are and not let anyone say you should be different than you are.
Here are some pictures from a pride parade that was in August.
